As many of you might know, Pantone picks “on trend” colors for each year to predict the directions in which fashion trends might go. Last year’s color, Marsala, was widely embraced by beauty companies globally. It was also very suitable for a wide range of skin tones and for both formal and casual occasions, making it a highly sought-after color for any look.

This year, however, Pantone has gone for a pastel combo: Rose Quartz (pastel pink) and Serenity (pastel blue). These two Colors of the Year are a part of Pantone’s wider 2016 Canvas, meant to be a fun, free-spirited, gender-neutral range of colors to inspire everyone from fashionistas to interior designers this year. Pastels are generally not a “mainstream” look, but that certainly doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with these beautiful colors anyway!

Some cosmetic companies have already got these colors – or very similar shades – in their collections. For the budget conscious, American drugstore brand Nyx carries a Macaron line of lipsticks, which comprises of all-pastel shades that will give you the best Pantone fix around. Notable shades that would perfectly complement the Pantone colors are Earl Grey, Blue Velvet, and Rose. Other Nyx colors in the Pantone 2016 Canvas are Citron and Orange Blossom, which match Pantone’s Buttercup (a vivid yellow) and Key Lime, which compliments Pantone’s Green Flash.

ColourPop, the online-only brand that has had beauty bloggers raving for the past year, also carries Pantone-worthy lip colors. Their Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks in Solow and 1st Base are great rosy colors, while their Lippie Stix in Raw is a beautiful pastel blue shade and Easy a great light pink.

For those who would prefer to collect some points at Sephora, NARS carries Anna, a gorgeous dusty rose. Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss collection has Coven, a pastel blue-lavender, and Poe, a darker blue that matches Pantone’s Snorkle Blue (which is a part of the 2016 Canvas). Too Faced also has two new shades out in their La Crème collection: Unicorn, a pastel blue, and Unicorn Tears, a beautiful iridescent blue-pink mix. Avid MAC fans can also get their Pantone fix with Mehr and Brave, two rosy pinks, and Matte Royale, another great Snorkle Blue lipstick.

If lipsticks aren’t your cup of tea, why not experiment with eyeshadows, eyeliners, and cheek products? Again, ColourPop delivers on this front, as does Nyx and the Italian drugstore brand Deborah. Revlon’s PhotoReady Eye Art line also includes Pantone colors in a dual-stick cream eyeshadow and glitter liner: perfect for a glamorous evening out. For those looking for a slightly higher price range, Urban Decay offers a wide range of pastel eye products, including their famous eyeliner sets (Gonzo and Vacancy from their eye pencils are must-haves!) and eyeshadows. MAC also offers eye-catching (pun intended!) colors for the chic fashionista to pursue.

If these colors appeal to you, excite you, and make you feel great about yourself, have fun with them! There’s a wide range for everyone to partake in, so go for it, and have a happy 2016!
